Watchlists That Work: A Simple System to Catch More Bourbon Releases

A watchlist keeps you from drowning in alerts for bottles you do not care about. Set it up right and you hear about Eagle Rare hitting a shelf three miles away. Set it up wrong and your phone buzzes every time someone stocks Fireball.

The 3-tier watchlist model

Tier A: Essentials (buy on sight) Dependable sippers and store picks. You will buy when alerted.

Tier B: Opportunistic Seasonal or "if close by." Worth picking up when convenient.

Tier C: Stretch A couple of harder-to-find targets. Keep, but do not let them dominate.

In Digital Dram, tag watchlist entries with A/B/C in the note. Sort by tag when scanning alerts.

Rules that keep noise out

• Cap Tier C at two.
• Cull monthly. If you passed on an alert twice, demote or remove.
• Localize names. If a shop uses a nickname (e.g., "store pick rye #3"), add it to the bottle note for fuzzy matches.

High-demand bottles like Blanton's or Weller 12 get reported fast and sell out faster. Pro subscribers get notified before free-tier users, which matters when a store only has three bottles on the shelf.

Convert alerts into action

• Keep your radius realistic. Alerts you cannot reach are noise.
• Designate routes from home to 2 favored shops. Check them first.
• After purchase, remove or pause the watchlist item for 30 days to avoid duplicate alerts. Use the store locator to check which shops near you carry the bottles you want.
